Jeffrey A. Leddy, Chief Executive Officer
Jeffrey A. Leddy became our Chief Executive Officer and interim principal financial officer in February 2017, and has served as a member of our Board of Directors since January 2013. Prior to his appointment as our Chief Executive Officer and interim principal financial officer, Mr. Leddy served on our Board’s Audit Committee and as the Chair of its Compensation Committee. Mr. Leddy previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Telematics, Inc. (f/k/a Hughes Telematics, Inc. prior to its acquisition by Verizon, Inc. in July 2012) from December 2006 until January 2015 and has served as a member of its board of directors since March 2006. From 2005 to 2011, Mr. Leddy served on the board of directors of Hughes Communications, Inc. and Hughes Systique Corporation and on the board of managers of Hughes Network Systems, LLC. From April 2003 through December 2006, Mr. Leddy served as Chief Executive Officer and President of SkyTerra Communications, Inc. and on its board of directors from 2006 to 2008. Prior to becoming Skyterra’s Chief Executive Officer, he also served in the roles of President and Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations for that company. Mr. Leddy received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
Walé Adepoju, EVP Media & Content
Walé Adepoju, GEE’s EVP Media & Content, has over 20 years of experience in creating and delivering successful customer experience and media strategies and is regarded as one of the leading experts in the field.
As Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Inflight Alliance (AIA), the company acquired by GEE in 2014, Walé successfully led performance growth in all aspects of passenger media content services, software and applications. He is the founder of IMDC, the specialist consulting firm that provided research and strategy that revolutionized the economics of media in aviation. Prior to IMDC, Walé was responsible for strategy and development at Spafax. Earlier in his career as an air transport analyst, he provided advice to aerospace companies on new aircraft investments and aircraft rejuvenation analysis. He was also part of the investment team that purchased and successfully executed the turnaround of Thermal Engineering, an aero engine parts supplier. He has an honors degree in Manufacturing Engineering and earned his Master’s in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University.
Abel Avellan, President, Chief Strategy Officer
Mr. Avellan is GEE’s President and Chief Strategy Officer. Mr. Avellan was previously Chief Executive Officer of Emerging Market Communications (EMC), which he co-founded in 2000. Mr. Avellan has over 25 years of experience as a trained engineer and played a major role in developing several of EMC’s patented applications designed for bandwidth re-utilization, noise reduction and reduction of antenna sizes for fixed and mobile networks. Mr. Avellan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Simón Bolívar University.
Joshua Marks, EVP Aviation Connectivity
Joshua B. Marks is Executive Vice President, Aviation Connectivity at Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. Mr. Marks previously served as Senior Vice President, Operations Solutions from August 2015 through June 2016. From January 2011 to August 2015, Mr. Marks was the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Marks Systems, Inc. (d/b/a masFlight), an aviation big-data analytics company that he co-founded and that the company acquired in August 2015. From February 2008 to December 2010, Mr. Marks was the Chief Financial Officer and a Director of eJet Aviation Holdings, a provider of VIP aircraft maintenance services, and the Executive Director of the American Aviation Institute, a commercial aviation policy think-tank. From 2003 to 2008, Mr. Marks served as a senior executive of MAXjet Airways, a transatlantic premium airline he co-founded. Earlier in his career, Mr. Marks served as Associate Director of the George Washington University aviation institute and held key roles at two technology companies, Virtualis Systems (acquired by Allegiance Telecom) and VelociGen (acquired by SOA Software). Mr. Marks holds a BA and an MBA from Harvard University.
Stephen Ballas, Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary
Stephen Ballas joined GEE as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of GEE in April 2016. Prior to joining GEE, Stephen was a Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at CBRE Group, Inc. (NYSE: CBG) from 2013 to 2016, where he managed its merger-and-acquisition, securities-law, corporate-finance and corporate-governance functions. Prior to that, Stephen served as a Senior Counsel at CBRE Global Investors, which is CBRE’s real estate investment management arm (2011 to 2013), as a Vice President at GSO Capital Partners, which is the credit-investment arm of The Blackstone Group (2010 to 2011), and as a Senior Counsel at the New York-based hedge fund TPG-Axon Capital (2007 to 2010). Stephen began his legal career as a corporate associate at the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett (2002 to 2007).
Stephen received a B.A. in Economics from Duke University and his J.D. from Georgetown Law School.
Zant Chapelo, SVP People & Organizational Development
Zant Chapelo joined Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. in October 2013 as Senior Vice President—People and Organizational Development. From September 2011 to October 2013, Mr. Chapelo served as a consultant at his own private firm and with Seabury Group Human Capital, where he led various aviation and mobility change initiatives focused on strategy, culture transformation and executive development. Prior to that, Mr. Chapelo was an executive coach for Fifth-Third Bank Corp. from December 2010 to September 2011. From December 2006 to December 2010, he was Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development for WorkflowOne. From October 2000 to December 2006, he was a Regional Sales Manager with LexisNexis and also led its global sales training and development programs. Mr. Chapelo has served 20 years in active military service (four years in the Army infantry and 16 years in various roles in the US Air Force). He holds four coaching and leadership development certifications, associates degrees in Military Science and Technology, Electronic Systems, Business, and Personnel Management, and a BA in Human Resource Management from Park University.
Kevin Trosian, SVP Corporate Development & Investor Relations
Kevin Trosian, GEE’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Investor Relations, has over 20 years’ experience in technology, corporate operations and finance transactions. Prior to joining GEE, Kevin was a Vice President at both Power-One, Inc. (acquired by ABB Group) and at Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (acquired by MACOM). At both companies, he led M&A, Investor Relations and capital raising, directed restructuring efforts and implemented financial controls. Earlier in his career, Kevin was a sell-side analyst and Vice President at Bank of America (f/k/a Montgomery Securities) and assisted with research on heart transplant patients at UCLA Medical Center. Kevin earned a BA in English from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.
Frank Mullen, SVP & Chief Accounting Officer
Frank Mullen joined GEE in November 2016 as its Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer. Prior to joining GEE, Mr. Mullen served as Vice President and Controller of Pinnacle Foods from September 2015 to November 2016. Before Pinnacle Foods, he held various roles at Aramark, including Vice President & Assistant Corporate Controller from May 2014 to August 2015 and Associate Vice President—Corporate Accounting from April 2006 to May 2014. He launched his career in the Audit & Assurance group of Arthur Andersen LLP. Mr. Mullen received a Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
